WOT IS CRAZY 8s?:
Crazy 8's is a brainstorming technique used to generate ideas for
specific design tasks. It is heavily used in UI design teams as it allows
designers to generate multitude of concepts and pushes individuals to think outside
their original ideas.
This method of brainstorming normally works by:
1. First the participant will divid their piece of paper into
8 equally sections either by folding or a ruler.
2. Then a leader/ organiser will set a timer for 8 minutes.
3. Upon starting the timer participants will begin sketching their ideas;
approximately one minute spent of each idea and a new idea in each one of the
eight boxes.
4. After the completion of the eight minutes participants put their pens down
and begin reflecting on their ideas either individual or as a group.
MY CRAZY 8'S:
In my crazy 8's, as shown above, we were tasked with coming up with ideas
for our website that we were going to create to show our progress within the
subject (Interactive Media).
Ignoring my current coding ability, I came up with a myriad of possible ideas
and avenues to explore from carousels to wiping a drawing to expose the interface, however,
one concept that seemed to be a repeating theme was this notion of old already
existing interactive medias (e.g. gamecube, CD player, book, old folder layout).
I gravitated towards this idea as I felt that it was a more interesting and unique
way to showcase my work. Another reason why I liked this concept was for the notion
of combining new and old interactive medias together to create this hybrid.
